About Lipotek

Lipotek was founded in 2001, when a number of commercial opportunities in the area of liposome technology (hence, 'Lipotek') being developed at the Australian National University (ANU) were recognised by the private equity firm Carrington Services Pty Ltd which subsequently provided the initial capital to establish a research and development program for Lipotek Pty Ltd. Some common misspellings of the company name are Lipotech or Lipotec.

Lipotek is a registered Australian company (ABN 51 098 824 509) having laboratories and offices on the campus of the ANU.  The office address is Building 46 (RN Robertson), Research School of Biology, Australian National University, Acton, Australian Capital Territory 0200, Australia.

The company operates primarily as a development entity seeking to identify and protect proprietary intellectual property (IP) relevant to the development of therapeutic vaccines.  The company seeks to demonstrate  ‘proof of concept’ in relation to its potential vaccine products by way of pre-clinical and clinical trials to ensure that the technology can be on-licensed to larger biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies under terms of collaborative arrangements able to generate revenue and allow continuing development of present and other novel products.

Lipotek is conducting a Phase I clinical trial of Lipovaxin-MM, its lead vaccine product for malignant melanoma. The study is ongoing and is expected to be completed in 2011. Other applications for the Lipovaxin and Lipokel technologies are in development.
